How Sweet Are Different Types of Coconuts?

The sweetness of coconuts is usually measured by the Brix index, which reflects the natural sugar content in coconut water. Each type of coconut has a different sweetness level depending on the variety, soil conditions, and cultivation methods.

Siam Lai Coconut: This is a hybrid coconut variety known for its high yield and adaptability. The average sweetness of Siam Lai coconut water is over 6.5% Brix, offering a mild, refreshing sweetness, making it ideal for hydration.

Red Siam Coconut: Recognizable by its distinct orange shell, this coconut is small in size but contains a high amount of water. The sweetness level of Red Siam coconut water is over 6.8% Brix, providing a richer taste compared to Siam Lai coconut, suitable for those who prefer a stronger coconut flavor.

Green Siam Coconut: This variety has the highest water quality among all Siam coconuts, with an average sweetness of over 7% Brix. Green Siam coconut is naturally sweet, refreshing, and highly favored in various markets due to its superior water quality.

Seedless limes can be stored for up to 45 days under proper storage conditions. To achieve optimal shelf life, they should be kept at a temperature of 2 – 5°C, with proper humidity and ventilation. They should also be protected from direct sunlight and excessive moisture to prevent mold growth.

For the Middle Eastern market, customers typically prefer 4kg boxes of dragon fruit for convenient retail sales. A 40-foot container can accommodate 3,760 boxes of dragon fruit. Packaging specifications may vary depending on customer requirements, such as 5kg boxes or customized packaging formats.

In the EU market, Green Siam Coconut is the most popular variety due to its natural sweetness and refreshing taste, making it ideal for direct consumption. European consumers pay close attention to the sweetness level (Brix), often requiring over 7 Brix for a rich flavor.

There are two main coconut product types in the EU:

  1. Whole Coconuts – Particularly organic or premium-grade coconuts, often sold in supermarkets and health food stores.
  2. Convenient Push-Cap Coconuts – Favored for their ease of consumption, allowing customers to drink coconut water instantly.

European consumption trends are shifting towards natural, preservative-free products with certifications such as GlobalGAP, Organic, and Fair Trade. Additionally, coconuts exported to the EU must meet strict standards regarding weight (usually 800g – 1.2kg per fruit) and packaging, such as carton boxes for optimal protection during transportation.

Although red-fleshed and white-fleshed dragon fruit look similar on the outside, they have distinct differences. Here’s how to identify them before cutting:

Skin Color

  • Red-fleshed dragon fruit: The outer skin is a deeper red or darker pink.
  • White-fleshed dragon fruit: The outer skin is lighter pink.

Spines & Leafy Bracts (Fruit “Ears”)

  • Red-fleshed dragon fruit: The spines (bracts) are thicker, larger, and curve upwards.
  • White-fleshed dragon fruit: The bracts are thinner, longer, and more vibrant green, usually curving downwards.

Fruit Shape

    • Red-fleshed dragon fruit: Generally rounder or slightly oval, and heavier for its size.
  • White-fleshed dragon fruit: Tends to be more elongated than the red-fleshed variety.
